___________________________________________________________ May 5, 2015 H A P P Y P R O G R E S S After reviewing three proofs for the paperback book, we finally reached one that works well. We have approved the proof and the book is now ready for purchase! Please check out the books page for ordering information and keep an eye out for updates on the hardcover version as it will also be available soon! ___________________________________________________________ April 16, 2015 H A P P Y G E T S A N E W L O O K Now that we're deep into designing the book, my wife and I thought the type could use some improving, taking on the 'voice' of happy a bit better. I'm happy to say that we've found letterforms that we believe capture the character of Happy nicely! The type is featured in the revised logo and in the book, Happy Wanders and Wonder. ___________________________________________________________ February 25, 2015 H A P P Y P R O G R E S S We're making great progress on the book! Today my wife and I found a fantastic combination of the Happy character, the painted backgrounds, and the type face and placement. All is coming together nicely! ___________________________________________________________ January 20, 2015 H A P P Y B A C K G R O U N D S The book continues to take shape as I'm developing backgrounds for the spreads that bring the story to life while utilizing my strengths as an artist. They are intentionally somewhat ambiguous as I want children to use their imagination when reading the book. ___________________________________________________________ November 30, 2014 T H E H A P P Y S T O R Y Although I've been tinkering with drafts for the book for months, I hadn't felt like it all came together until today. Now that the story is finished, it's time to really get moving on the visuals! ___________________________________________________________ September 25, 2014 B R O W N I E S M E E T H A P P Y I want to send a big thanks to the local Girl Scouts who invited me to introduce Happy their troop. I had a great time teaching them to draw the character, which they did beautifully! I also enjoyed chatting with the girls about what makes them happy inside and outside of brownies. Thanks for a fun day girls! ___________________________________________________________ September 2, 2014 H A P P Y I S C O M I N G T O P R I N T Thanks to the Mt. Lebanon Arts Initiative, residents of the Pittsburgh community that I'm proud to call my home, learned about, explored, and shared their 'Happy' with me at two great venues—the Mt. Lebanon Earth Day celebration and the Mt. Lebanon Public Library. I had a blast with all of you who joined in the fun and gained lots of great information that is feeding the book series. I plan to introduce the first book--Happy Goes for aWalk—in early April (so check back soon for details). I'm planning on using some of the money that I raise to support the making of a second book, which I also hope to kickstart in 2015. This effort will fund the printing and distribution of Happy Goes for Walk to public libraries across the country. I hope that you will consider backing this project, which I strongly believe can boost family happiness in meaningful ways! ___________________________________________________________ August 11, 2014 S E E T H E C O M M U N I T Y H A P P Y As promised, a banner sporting all of the great drawings of Happy that the local community created is now on display at the Mt. Lebanon Public Library. Come check it out and see if you can spot your drawings! It's located on the lower level of the library through the end of August. ___________________________________________________________ June 12, 2014 T H A N K S F O R S H A R I N G Y O U R H A P P Y Thanks to everyone who stopped by the Mt. Lebanon Public Library on Sunday, June 8th to learn more about Happy the Crab. It was great to see so many people bring their awesome drawing skills and imagination to the event. It was also wonderful to see lots of visitors sporting a 'Happy' shirt! I enjoyed teaching visitors of all ages how to sketch their own version of Happy to be included in a community collage that will be featured at the library at the end of the summer. (Don't forget to stop back to see it in August!) Many people also shared their ideas for Happy's future adventures with me because although the first few books are in the works Happy is excited to keep his adventures going! Keep rockin' the Happy and feel free to shoot me messages with pics and ideas! ___________________________________________________________ May 1, 2014 T H A N K S F O R E X P L O R I N G Y O U R H A P P Y It was great seeing lots of visitors at Mt. Lebanon's Earth Day on Saturday, April 26th. Families learned more about Happy the Crab and did a little sketching of him. Before they left, visitors snagged great re-usable tote bags and bookmarks that feature Happy and invite everyone to join the next big event at the Mt. Lebanon Public Library in early June. It was wonderful to see lots of people sporting the bright green bags! If you missed out on the fun you can grab a bookmark at the Mt. Lebanon Public Library and be sure to share your happy with me in June! |
